Zoe South - Soprano

Zoe South was born in Kent, and her initial musical life was as a flautist.  Singing took over later, and her initial training (as a mezzo soprano) took place at the Mayer Lismann Opera Centre, and later at the Opera School Wales, where she was the 2005 Sophie’s Silver Lining Fund Scholar. 

Currently a student of Ryland Davies, she has also received training and coaching from Richard Smart, David Syrus (Head of Music, Royal Opera House), Peter Robinson, and Christopher Gould.

Engagements for 2007 include soprano soloist for Rachmaninov’s “The Bells” for Woking Choral Society, work for The Lost Chord Project, and the cover of the title role in Puccini’s Turandot for Dorset Opera.

Roles include Turandot (Turandot), Lady Macbeth (Macbeth), Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos), Santuzza (Cavalleria Rusticana), Giovanna Seymour (Anna Bolena) and formerly as a mezzo Jezibaba (Rusalka), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Berta (Il barbiere di Siviglia), both Florence Pike and Mrs Herring (Albert Herring), Lucretia (The Rape of Lucretia), and Third Lady (The Magic Flute), for companies including Longborough Festival Opera, The Opera Project, Opera Holland Park, Opera Box, Swansea City Opera, Dorset Opera, Riverside Opera, Abbey Opera, and Unicorn Opera.   

Choral and concert work includes soprano soloist (Les Noces - Stravinsky), On Wenlock Edge (Vaughan Williams), Wesendonck Lieder (Wagner), Four Last Songs (Strauss), and much of the standard choral repertoire as both mezzo and soprano soloist.
